I really don’t know much about this at all as yet.
I bought it because I hadn’t come across it before.
Mindat says it is an aluminium potassium sulphate. I believe it is found in various places including Italy, Australia, USA (Utah), Slovakia, Ukraine.

Alexandrite is a rare variety of Chrysoberyl that appears different colours in different lighting conditions. It has the nickname of Emerald by day, Ruby by night.
Originally discovered in Russia, it is now also found in Sri Lanka, East Africa, and Brazil. It is very rare and very expensive.
